Oeuf: F

To commemorate the 25th year of Book Arts at the Virginia Center for the Book, member artists reworked previous collaborative projects in creative ways for our 2021 Raucous Auction.

This is “Oeuf” (meaning “egg” in French).

I created this huge paper maché egg using cut up pages from the original 2008 collaborative project “F,” which was a bound book drawing from the cultural legacy Frankenstein.  The open inside allows you to see both sides of the printed sheets… and then a mirror is installed at the bottom in which you’re reflected… This nods to themes in the story of pieces assembled together to create a form, egg for birth, and a mirror reflection (sudden self awareness) which figures prominently in the book.
